I have been photographing this family for years so each time we add a new session, I am always in awe of how they have grown and all the success and love between them. The longevity I have with them is the exact reason why I do what I do. I know each of them well enough to be able to capture all their silliness and love for one another. It is always such a joy to photograph this family, truly. And, just days after this session, Dalton and Katie got engaged! Plus, can we just love how sweet great grandma is with the babies? While they aren’t engaged, Megan and Nick joined me for some snowy portraits and these two were awesome to photograph. I really enjoyed getting to meet them and photograph them. Despite it being cold, they were having fun and took every opportunity to cuddle up to each other! I think these snowy portraits among the pine trees are so cute and definitely showcase an Ohio winter. I love that Fatima did Megan’s make up giving her an extra pop of pink to her eyes and she was just GLOWING! Fatima is amazing to work with! Oh my goodness, what a fun session we had simply letting Stella enjoy a brownie and play pretend ‘boss babe’ for her first birthday portraits! Stella’s brother, Porter, did a Boss Baby themed session a few years ago so this twist on that type of session was brilliantly thought up by Stella and Porter’s mama! Stella is the most precious girl. She loved making silly sounds with me, smiling, and catching the attention of the patrons at Fox in the Snow safe. She enjoyed her session and that’s the BEST thing I love about letting these little ones show off their personalities!

ENV's Year In Review: Favorite Family Moments

To start this little series, I wanted to review some of the untold stories behind some photographs you may or may not have seen that I photographed this year. Yes, while my job entails posting and sharing the most beautiful photos on social media, some images have a deeper story. They may look like one thing but they have so much to it that means so much more to my clients. I hope you enjoy getting a glimpse into a deeper look of the stories I’ve captured in 2021.

Little Women

These little ladies just adore each other. During their session, these sisters and I struck a deal: If they did great the entire session, they could have some photos of their own poses. At the end, they held up their end of the bargain and asked to stand with their backs to me to take a photo. I positioned them with these clouds and asked them to hold hands. This is now one of my most favorite photos of this year. Not really because of how it looks, but because of how these sisters love each other and getting their own special photo was so important to them.

Grandpa Says

When I photograph dads and grandpas, they typically aren’t the most enthused to have their pictures taken. (Now not all, but enough to notice the trend!) But this grandpa was happy to be getting pictures with his grandbabies. He and his grandson were sitting on this rock and as we were about to end the session, he asked to have their picture taken here. Grandpa might have thought he was asking for a photo for himself but his grandson will have this image to look back on. As the decades pass, this image will become more and more valuable to this family.

Adventures With Piglet

This little man was a little timid at the start of the session. When he arrived, he had this sweet, well loved little piglet in his arms. There is something so beautiful about little ones with stuffed ‘friends’ that make them feel safe. As the session went along, Piglet gave this little guy the courage to adventure on this fallen tree. In situations like this, where kids show up shy and leave adventurous, I feel so lucky to have watched them grow in just one hour’s time.

The Tooley Bunch

As we were walking to our cars, the kids wanted a picture. They are such a funny bunch, they wanted this shot of them popping out from behind the tree. I immediately got Brady Bunch vibes and we came up with this! It’s so, absolutely them and so funny. They chose this as a canvas for their home as well. I always love capturing shots that may not be ‘viral’ to the world but to this family, it was everything to them!

Take A Moment

Taylor is a mother to three beautiful, smart, energetic boys. We, as mothers, know that getting everyone together for a family portrait session can be rough. Little ones are hard to keep clean and even though the boys and dad were playing in leaves, Taylor didn’t let it stress her out. She just snuggled into the sweet babe in her arms. I was supposed to be photographing the boys in the leaves but I turned around and photographed this. So let Taylor be your reminder to just enjoy your session and take in a few seconds to just love, authentically like you would cuddled on a couch at home, during your session. Let it shine through.

Be Yourself

It has become a tradition with the Hartman family to get crazy, silly, funny photos during parts of their sessions. I truly never know what to expect and I LOVE that. So as we were walking to a trail nearby, this scene happened. It was totally playful, silly, and no one was hurt. Everyone was playing along. At the end of this session, Mom gave me a ‘Thanks for always letting us be ourselves.’ and I have kept that with me since. That’s what I love to do for my clients!

Blacklick, Ohio / Columbus, Ohio Family Portrait Photographer || The Crawford Family

I can’t describe to you the feeling of seeing a client after a little while. Many of you know I took a break from ‘FULL TIME’ photography during the pandemic and have since come roaring back to full time status this year. My expectation of my clients returning to me was… well… I told myself, ‘They won’t be back because they found other talented people and I shouldn’t expect them to. It was ME who stepped away so I can’t expect anyone to return.’

YOU GUYS PROVED ME WRONG. I thank God every night for that too! The Crawford family was not always what you see here. Years ago, it was a bride and groom in front of my camera. Then I saw a husband and wife through my lens, expecting their first child. After a few weeks, their ‘bump’ turned into a sweet baby boy who I held in my studio and wrapped in soft blue cloth. Now you see them here in these photographs as a family, navigating life together.

Their sweet boy is a little camera shy so while maybe ‘traditionally’ portraits might be looking at the camera, his parents and I decided that he came before the vanity of photos. I think we made the right call. Little ones have BIG feelings that they can’t always express or know how to perfectly explain so I think that our choice to respect him turned into some REALLY beautiful and stunning moments. I truly adore what we captured here. Our babies are not little for long. Let’s agree to capture their tiny bodies in our arms for as long as we can. Let’s soak in the snuggles and cuddles. How about we let them be little and capture them just like that. <3

The Fall season has been so different because of the warmer weather but it still looked SO beautiful for the Everhart Family! We worked took a little walk on the bike trail near their home to capture their family portraits. I am so happy with all the sweet smiles and giggles that were captured during this session.

After a reschedule because of the typical rainy Fall weather we get here in Ohio, I finally got to meet the Moore family and their adorable family dog! I loved getting to meet them and learn more about them. It was so funny because when we photographed this session their dog, Cooper, was very vocal in making sure he was in all the photos. When we had him sit next to me, he would whine because he wanted so badly to be in every shot. He loves his people! Such a sweet, good boy!

Meet the two people who were my FIRST ever clients! That’s right, many moons ago, it was two people who were engaged. Now that has grown to a family of five! I can not believe that after all this time I get to continue to photograph them and this journey through marriage and parenthood.

They are raising some amazing young men too. These boys were so sweet. They were picking the most colorful leaves for me to hold on it. They told me all about how they like camping and school. Its so nice to hear what the love and what makes their days happy!

I just ADORE this family! Holly and her family are so sweet and I just enjoyed getting to know them during their session the other day. These kids just LOVE their family and I think that SHINES in these images. They are so silly and happy and I just loved getting to capture that part of them!

Meeting Julia was such a wonderful experience. She is so beautiful and kind! She and her mom came from Mount Vernon to get her portraits taken near the woods of Alum Creek! I loved getting to learn more about Julia. She shared with me that she wants to have a career in the medical field and is currently working towards that goal. I am sure she will have GREAT bed side manner! She also arrive in this beautiful outfit that I thought was so classic, beautiful and flattering! Wearing a jean jacket, she was able to easily change up her look too! It was a brilliant choice!

Recently I got to meet Andrea and her mom! Andrea is enjoying her senior year and right before this session had celebrated her Senior homecoming at school! We caught the last weekend of sunflowers at The Patch on 37 ran by Lynd’s Fruit Farm and I love how bright and happy Andrea looks surrounded by sunflowers!

Little RC was having a BLAST at his session! I always love watching little ones explore new areas they may not have been to in a while. RC loved finding sticks, leaves and berries.
